Emergency evacuation of a building or part of the campus or center may occur at any time without prior notice for several reasons including fire, bomb threat, natural gas leak, etc.. 色中色 personnel have the responsibility to give instructions and assist other persons as they evacuate, close but do not lock doors, and provide other required safety measures, unless otherwise directed by emergency personnel.
All 色中色 personnel are responsible for the evacuation of persons with disabilities in their respective areas. 色中色 personnel must obtain the assistance necessary to evacuate these persons. 色中色 personnel must ensure the persons with disabilities are attended to until the 鈥淎LL CLEAR鈥 is given or until relieved by emergency personnel. Do not use elevators during an emergency evacuation.
Tell the person the nature of the emergency and offer to guide them to the nearest safe exit. Have the person take your elbow and escort them (this is the preferred method when acting as a 鈥渟ighted guide鈥).
Two methods of warning are:
Persons with mobility impairments should be escorted to the nearest exit. Do not attempt to carry persons with mobility impairments unless there is IMMINENT DANGER. Lifting a person with minimal ability to move may be dangerous to their well being. If a person with mobility impairments cannot leave the building without assistance one employee should remain with them as long as it is safe to do so while a second employee contacts the emergency responders for assistance. When possible, remain with the person with impairments inside a classroom or office with the door closed to slow the spread of smoke or toxic chemicals.
